We believe problem solving and finding insights for our clients is a craft, as is driving impact and inspiring our clients to take action. As such, we work as a team on delivering the best insights and impact.
Compassion
We look out for the welfare of our clients - as individuals and as organizations - even if it may come at our expense as individuals, or as a firm. Though we recognize that not everyone shares our values, we will be transparent in moments when we think that a values-based approach suggests a different solution or desired outcome than our clients might choose. We seek to engage with external stakeholders by operating as if our own example could inspire them to seek a higher standard than they originally planned.
Humanity
We believe that every employee at the client, every Artemis team member, and every stakeholder connected to these organizations has inherent value. No one is a cog in a machine, no one is to be objectified to reduce risk or avoid difficulties. This does not mean we don’t make hard decisions. It simply changes how we make them (what is in the consideration set, and how we prioritize and incorporate the various considerations), the risks we will tolerate, and the ways we execute on hard decisions.
Humility
We seek to always consider and prioritize the needs of others above our own needs; to honor and celebrate distinctive goodness; and to protect and exercise discretion with regard to weakness. This means that we must understand and remain attentive to others’ boundaries, strengths, and weaknesses, even if they differ from our own, and even in situations where our own stress or insecurity would make it easy to act pridefully or selfishly. It means we exercise patience, prudence, discretion, and care when making judgments with limited information, to avoid assumptions that belittle or unfairly infer the motives and perspectives of others.
Honesty
We are direct and honest with our clients and ourselves; we seek to communicate clearly about our motives, needs, and constraints in all situations. This does not mean all information will, or should be shared with all stakeholders. It means that subterfuge, deceit, misdirection, and disingenuity have no place in our behavior and working relationships, whether within Artemis, or in our interactions and relationships with clients and external stakeholders. It means that we will be clear about withholding certain information to protect decision-making integrity, and at times we will disclose uncomfortably, or even at great cost, when doing so allows the prioritization of our values.
Openness
We seek always to challenge the thinking and practices of the status quo; whether ours, those of our clients, or those in the industry and society at large. In approaching a business problem, we attempt to incorporate ideas that are fresh, new, and untried- even, and perhaps especially, when they make us uncomfortable or originate from a perspective that differs from our own. We expend extra time, resources, and attention to ensure that we do not allow intellectual laziness to let us overlook a novel path or solution.
